How Long Can This Go On

By Bruce Clifford

You look at me as if I am crawling under your skin.
All those moments of the past are wearing paper thin.
You talk to me as if it doesn’t matter what I feel.
It’s like an open cut on the corners of my heart.

How long can this go on?
How long can we carry on?
Have we taken this all too far?
Do we even know who we are, anymore?

You talk to me as if I am a shadow in a storm.
It used to be a place to feel safe and warm.

How long can this go on?
How long can we carry on?
Have we taken this all too far?
Do we even know who we are, anymore?

Do you miss what could have been?
Why did you resist what was happening?
How long can this go on?

How long can this go on?
How long can we carry on?
Have we taken this all too far?
Do we even know who we are, anymore?
