Thirteen

By Bruce Clifford

I can't believe it's you and me again
After all this time I still get so afraid
The crushing pain still runs circles through my head
I can't believe I can hear your voice again
I can't believe that I can see your face again
When you run into a past that
Blows visions in your mind
If you would have held out your hand
I would have held it forever in time
Now all of these memories
Come rushing back to me
Just when I thought I was out
You appear to me in my dreams

I can't believe you remember I was your friend

Have I evolved beyond what you expected to see
Too many years have passed to ever pretend
I can't believe that I can hold your hand again
I can't believe that I can call out your name again
Now I'm grown with a child of my own
She never needs to fear because
Of all the things that I know
I can't believe it's you and me again
Things have changed and I'm no longer afraid
Maybe I can't walk on water,
But I have a light that you need to see
I can't believe I can hear your voice again
I can't believe that I can see your face again

I can't believe.
