Better Than

By Bruce Clifford

Better than the limits that we set for ourselves
Better than the photographs of somebody else
Better than the motorcade running through my yard
Better than the medication created to stop my heart

Better than the reasons of distance and pain
Better than the seasons of endless draught and rain
Better than the cold cruel world tugging at my feet
Better than the endless days of walking in the streets

You are one we are two
We know exactly what we must do
We made it through
We made it through

Better than the basic facts laid out on empty pages
Better than watching chemicals react through all these unforgettable stages
Better than the history of light and mountain views
Better than these words I save,
Better than me and better than you

You are one we are two
We know exactly what we must do
We made it through
We made it through

Are we better off now
We made it through
Are we better than this
We made it through

Better than the limits that we set for ourselves
Better than the photographs of somebody else
Better than the motorcade running through my yard
Better than the medication created to stop my heart
