The Sanctuary

By Bruce Clifford

Not every song I write is written for you
Not every word is scribed just to explore you
It's not as if I want to ignore you
But if you think I'm here just to adore you
There's always another side

Not every phrase is penned just to draw you
Not every moment of my life is thinking of you
It's not as if you have given me a reason to trust you
But if you think my life is simply just to love you
There's always another side

What happened to the sanctuary
Whatever happened to peace of mind
Whatever happened to the change of the seasons
Where are the days when no one had to lie

Not every poem I craft is all about you
Just because you read between the lines
Maybe there are others who inspire me more than you
It's not like what we have in common leaves a good vibe

Whatever happened to the sanctuary
Whatever happened to truth and give and take
Whatever happened to dreams people share together
Why is this place filled with so many lies and hate

The sanctuary
You say it's so
The sanctuary
It's not a place one would want to go

Not every minute of the day is spent trying to draw you
Not every wish I make has you in defined
Not every song I write is written for you
Sometimes I might have someone else in mind
