Playing Tricks

By Bruce Clifford

I heard about all the trouble you've been through
All those memories and pain caught up with you
Looking for answers as you follow after me
Playing tricks with your fingers and drinking your Earl Grey tea

I heard about all this chaos in your mind
Through these years of silent offerings define
Take to the sea and have a drink on me
Playing tricks with the shadows and all the possibilities

Playing tricks on each other
It's the human condition
Playing tricks on one and other
It's the oldest religion
Here we go

I heard about all the places that you've been
All those quiet nights looking to live in sin
Searching the sky line as you laugh until you can't see
Playing tricks with emotions each time you look out to the sea

Playing tricks on each other
It's the human condition
Jumping rope to discover
It's about timing and decision
It's the oldest religion

Playing tricks on each other
It's a sign of the times
Coming out from under the covers
They were waiting in lines
It's a sign of the times

Playing tricks on each other
It's the human condition
Playing tricks on one and other
It's the oldest religion
Here we go

It's the human condition
It's as old as religion
It's the ultimate decision
Here we go
