In Love With The Earth

By John I. Blair

The Earth and I are lovers.
Oh we try to keep it secret . . .
I dissemble, act the beast,
Abuse her with my carelessness.

On her part she can pretend
To be indifferent and cold,
Keeping me so uncomfortable
I doubt she knows I’m here.

But I couldn’t live without her;
And absent me, who would there be
To worship her,
To write her poems?
