One Foot

By Bud Lemire

One foot in the future, one foot in the past
We think about the present, never knowing it won't last
We daydream about the past, and what the future will be
Changes come along, that we just couldn't see

We end up in places, we never thought we'd be
In a time we traveled, to fulfill our destiny
“How did this happen?” is what you say
With the Universe, it always finds a way

What a journey, that life brings us through
Never knowing, just where we're going to
You get on at the start, with hopes of what you'll find
Ending up somewhere else, it just blows your mind

Sometimes you kind of know, where you're going to
Yet, you never know, what you will go through
In time, it's all about the journey you make
And all the chances, that you're going to take

I was caught in a place, time held me there
Then it set me free, and I went everywhere
We think about the present, never knowing it won't last
With one foot in the future, and one foot in the past

Author Note:

Life is amazing when time is involved. Our lives take on a
completely different meaning than what we ever thought it
would be from the beginning. We see things differently. We
become totally different people. We can't see the future, and
when it gets here, it's not always what we expected. And yet,
there are many wonderful surprises along the way.
