Sunny Mornings

By John I. Blair

These days on sunny mornings
I like to sit outside,
Basking my aching bones,
Listening to the birds, the breeze,
Touching flowers and leaves.

Before the August heat
Clamps down on everything
It’s good to get this evidence
That although Nature isn’t always kind
She also isn’t always cruel.
