Just Today

By Lena Carroll

So oft in the early morning when
Our hearts are quiet and at peace
There comes a loving whisper
Stealing oe'r the gate and fence--
Telling to be up and doing,
Face this day with a smile--
God gives strength for the journey,
Grace for every mile.
Brood not o'er the days gone by--
Nor fret for those to come--
Today is graciously given
For today's work needs be done.
"Watch for my coming," He told them,
"Your talents you must use today,
Not hoard them for the morrow,
But use them to teach my way."
Oh! If we mortals could only
By those words of wisdom abide--
Think how easier our pathway
Think of barriers we'd override!
Just if we'd live each day
As tho' it were the one
Christ was coming again to earth
To tell us our victories were won!
