Feed And Thrive

By John I. Blair

Am I atoning for the possums, raccoons,
Squirrels my ancestors of old have eaten
By indulging fantasies of friendship
And giving seed to untamed animals?

Or have I merely recognized
These are my little brothers, sisters,
Behaving boldly, as sisters, brothers
Are wont to do at times,

Assuming, as must we all,
Our Mother/Father
Puts good things in our lives
And we would be foolish
Not to take them, feed, and thrive?
