Constant Reminders
By
Bruce Clifford
Run down houses, boarded up buildings.
Not to far from manicured lawns,
Latchkey children, come home hungry,
Walk by the gourmet restaurants,
I pass by these scenes, of things that should not be,
Constant reminders to take off your blinders,
See all the sides of the truth,
Wrongs that need righting, battles worth fighting,
In this world we’re all passing through,
And I just can’t ignore what’s outside my own door,
With these constant reminders.
Front-page headlines, too many stories,
Innocent victims of hate filled crimes,
Old folks lonely, new folks homeless,
I bow my head and close my eyes,
There’s no way to escape, what I see everyday
Constant reminders to take off your blinders,
See all the sides of the truth,
Wrongs that need righting, battles worth fighting,
In this world we’re all passing through,
And I just can’t ignore what’s outside my own door,
Reminding me, there is no island,
Where these pictures disappear,
There are answers; I’ve got to find some,
You know we’re all connected here.
Constant reminders to take off your blinders,
See all the sides of the truth,
Wrongs that need righting, battles worth fighting,
In this world we’re all passing through,
And we just can’t ignore what’s outside our own door,
With these constant reminders.
Constant reminders.
