Gifts

I like to give gifts.

There’s pleasure in the giving,
Pleasure in the joy I see
When they’re received,

Pleasure in anticipating joy,
Rejoicing that I love someone
Enough to give the gift.

But perhaps the most
Rewarding gift that I can give
Is when I give away my hurt,

My fear, my grieving;
That I give to no one else –
Giving it is done just for myself.
