Confession

By John I. Blair

Evil made the towers fall.
But evil needs
A lot of energy.

Carelessness,
Venality suffice
For levees topped,

Polluted air
And poison toys,
Melting ice,

Bleeding manatees.
Our spokesmen
Smilingly excuse

Why millions lack
And people starve
Upon the streets.

When will we confess
The deeds of each
Affect us all?
