Explosions In The Night

By John I. Blair

Explosions in the night.
I wonder, should I look
Or simply speculate,

Explaining to myself
The night’s so black
I’d see no hard rain fall,

Wouldn’t see a thing
But flashes on the trees,
Descending into darkness.

Window blinds closed tight,
All the lamps bright lit,
I can think I’m safe inside.

But a quick glance down the hall
Reveals an undefended pane
Admitting night is in the yard.
