The World Burns

By M. Jay Mansfield

As I sit here…
In this frozen waste.
I watch the world burn
The fire has everyone under its power…

It rushes between mother and child
Between police and suspect
Between villain and justice
It creeps slowly over the face of the victim and deems all just

All just, to feel the flames…
All suitable to be emancipated
All suitable to be consumed

Wipe the sleep from your eyes.
Or fall deeper into your sleep
Wherever you must be…
Awaken to the wildfire

Listen to the crackle of moral fiber
Smell the charred remnants of belief
Watch the flames grow higher
You may run or stand but still it comes

It rushes between child and toy
Between worker and his toil
Between lovers and rivals
It rushes quickly over the web of victims trusts

All just, to feel the flames…
All suitable to be emancipated
All suitable to be consumed

It comes…as a brother
It comes as a parent
Help….Hell…It comes
I stand and shiver at the cold thought of these flames…
