Shadow Show

By John I. Blair

My bedroom has a window

Layered with protection,
Cloth and slatted plastic.

Sunny days
The open linen drapes
Show shadows on the blinds.

Lance-like leaves
On curving branches
Trace across the glow
An ornate tapestry.

And unlike Gobelins
This artwork dances,
Gains and loses figures,
Shifts and shimmers
Softly in the breeze.

My chance to choose:
Imagine what I see,
Pick out patterns,
Muse on magic, or,
By yanking on a cord,
Know reality.
