Real Heroes Aren't So Brave

By John I. Blair

For me the greatest heroes
Are those who quiver in their shoes,
Quite terrified the while
They’re doing needful deeds.

Like sober men
Who’ve never longed for beer,
Heroes lacking fear
Do not impress me.

I praise the most
The bunch who keep on course
Even when they’ve lost their lunch
And peed their pants.
