The First Day Of The Dragonfly

By Bud Lemire

It is the first day of the dragonfly
First time this year that it flew by
It danced around as I rode along
While on my bicycle I sang a song

"Dragonfly, so mystical and free
Dancing in the air, all around me
Tell me, what is it that you know
That holds my interest as you come and go"

Do you eat other insects in the air
And do you know more than we're aware
So many questions I want to ask
To make this special moment last

"Dragonfly, Dragonfly, flying all around
Why is it that you make no sound
And if you do, I haven't heard
Your language isn't spoken in the human word"

Oh tell me, what do you do at night
When no one sees you in the light
How do you think, what's on your mind
How do you see, and are you blind

"Dragonfly, so mystical and free
Dancing in the air, all around me
Tell me, what is it that you know
That holds my interest as you come and go"
