The Easy Stuff

By John I. Blair

I never sweat the easy stuff,
Scraping dishes, garbage sacking,
Mucking out the litter pan,
Mopping up the floor.

All of these, though messy,
Wearisome and boring,
Are just routine, simplicity,
Jobs I know I’m fit for.

Yanking weeds? Just call me.
Scrubbing tubs? I’m there.
Peeling funky bedclothes?
I’ll sail into the task.

But arbitrating arguments,
Soothing ailing feelings,
Extinguishing the past --
Don’t ask.
