Giving Up On Life Is Not For Me

By John I. Blair

As I grow old
My vision dims,
My hearing dulls,
My footsteps drag,
And pain is my companion
In every waking moment.

But then I greet a child at play,
I sing a song I’ve never sung,
I walk in beauty one more time
And forgive the pain for now,
As I know better things today
Than feeling sorry for myself.
