Voting Day

By John I. Blair

Voting’s a task to do with dignity.
Not hurried, hasty, half-thought-out.
You should consider carefully,
Approach the spot where you will vote
As if a temple, mosque, or church,
A sacred ritual.

Many have suffered, bled and died
So you can do this deed in peace.
The act of voting, done with pride,
Keeps democracy at our side,
Keeps us a people just and free;
It is not trivial.
