It’s pretty easy to amaze me;
I’m like the goose
That wakes up in a new world every day,
The kitten that never tires
Of playing with its tail.
After more than sixty years
I cannot claim with confidence
To comprehend a single sight I see
However many times I gaze upon it;
A dash of raindrops on an arid beach,
The flight of doves,
Leaf-rich trees reaching
From the earth into the sky,
My lover’s velvet lips . . .
Each of these can daze me,
Leave me gasping with delight.
