A Perfect Place

By John I. Blair

Somewhere in my world I need
A space within, without, beyond,
Where I can stem my fears
And welcome all
(Though all may not send welcome signs);
Treasure every human’s beauty
(Even when the beauty marks are unfamiliar);
Love everyone (though not everyone
Inspires affection).

I’ve been seeking such a place for years
But haven’t found it yet, and so
Go on functioning
As less than I pretend.
