Indomitable

By John I. Blair

I am not indomitable, unyielding.

Indeed, it takes so little
To dominate me for a while
That I seem wishy-washy.

Resilience is more my style.

Whatever comes along,
I pride myself
On getting over it,
Springing back strong.

For me a favorite tale
Is The Willow and the Oak:
The rigid Oak holds firm
Before the gale;
But if the storm
Grows too fierce
Can snap and fall.
The Willow bends soon,
But never breaks; and when
The storm is over, stands tall.
