Veterans Day

By John I. Blair

Double eleven day,
The day we ended
The war to end all wars
Only to see a century
Of endless war ensue;
The day when we remember
That freedom's price
Is blood, agony, oblivion
For a sacrificial few.
Much can be forgiven,
But forgetting
All the men and women
Who've paid in tedium and terror
So we could sleep in peace
Would be unforgivable.
