Assumptions

A pbobby Provocation
February 17, 2003

One can live close to an inactive volcano and assume that it will not erupt with horrific consequences to the land contiguous to it and the people living within its lethal reaches. But one is not always correct with personal assumptions. One can be wrong, dead wrong.

Another could assume that he/she will outlive all those dependent on her/him, refusing to purchase any life insurance. Again inaccurate assumptions are possible. Death could overtake the assumer any minute, any hour, any day, in any of thousands of ways. Because of a wrong assumption, it could be a long, bleak period for those left behind.

Or you could assume that your spouse loves you and the way you care and relate. Such an assumption without any regular conversations of depth might just be false. True heartbreak could be just around the corner if we take our mate for granted.

We frequently hear or read about someone trying to beat it across the tracks before the train arrives. You might win the race once in a while, but such an assumption has cost many people their lives.

Someone you know and love might walk right past you in a Mall, appearing to have looked into your eyes and not speaking. You could assume this person is angry with you. On the other hand, he could have made the same assumption about your not speaking. A good friendship could be lost if you don't catch up to your friend to shake hands and say: "Hello my friend; how are you?"

Our military could assume that Saddam Hussein will not use chemical or biological weapons in the war haunting us daily. If we are wrong, we could spend much time and grief filling body bags to bring home for burial.

We can assume that Saddam will not sell or give WMD's to al Qaeda for use by sleeper cells all over the USA. Don't count on it. Saddam is fearful of the al Qaeda goal to kill all who do not become Muslim. Their fiercely held goal is to make the whole world subject to their radical Muslim religion with all of its barbarism.

We must disarm Saddam and destroy all of al Qaeda or we will stay in the hold of Daily Terrors.

From this day forward the free world must fight without ceasing this evil from the Muslim religion purloined by al Qaeda.

Comment: Bob, your column is timely and well-considered. The news that aired last evening concerning the capture and arrest of the mastermind of the 911 Terrorist Attack caused my heart gladness. It is my fervent hope that much information can be obtained from him and his two deadly cohorts over the next weeks and months.

Comment: Thanks for that shout for freedom, Bob. It amazes me how some of the world and even Americans can't see the evil that is trying to overtake our freedom. We can't assume anything with a madman. He doesn't think like us. Thanks for your supportive words. Keep our troops in your prayers. My son is one of those waiting to fight for our freedom and believe me he makes no assumptions. He sees evil and is ready to destroy it to keep us free. Love you, Judy
