Amy
By
Michael L. Craner
She had wide, innocent brown eyes,
straight black hair and a dirty face,
a victim of seemingly eternal dark skies,
a child of six, too weary to keep pace.
She's of a country war-torn,
her family gone, she's all alone.
Tears wash her face, sick with mourn,
stumbles over rubble, what used to be home.
Too young to understand,
too weak to defend.
She's unable to meet life's demand,
and wonders when it will all end.
