Mikes Place

By Michael L. Craner

Ah, a new year, a new beginning! Or is it? A year ago we were realizing a recession, waging war in Afghanistan, and watching historic changes in world history.

Today, we are still in Afghanistan, moving in on Iraq, and considering Korea as well. We are still firmly rooted in recession, unemployment remains high, and as if we didn’t have enough crazies on this rock, now we’re starting to clone them!

Other historic changes are coming as well, such as more tax cuts during a wartime situation to boost the economy or something like that. The “Big Brother Plan” is moving forward, so soon we can be rid of our annoying neighbors with just a phone call to the feds about their “terrorist like activities”. Now THAT makes me feel safer. Yeah right.

I don’t pretend to have a clue about all the intel Uncle Sam may have, or his reasons or motives for their actions and plans. I do try to remain hopeful that they truly are going about all this in the best interests of our nation, and the world, although I fail to see how war prevents war.

Meanwhile, I’ll just try to follow the news, raise my kids and keep my job. To me that is the surest path to world peace. Lead by example, do what you will, harm none. Mind your own business and make your mark on the world by pursuing wisdom and education. Not guns and bombs.

Here’s to you in 2003...

May the road rise up to meet you;
May the wind be always at your back,
The sun shine warm upon your face,
The rain fall soft upon your fields,
And until we meet again May God hold you in the hollow of his hand.

Comment: I pray that our government knows the dangers, for my son has just been deployed to fight for our freedom. I can only trust in God and His plan for us all. Pray for the sons and husbands who are over there ready to die for us and our freedom.
