FailureBy

To Mother, in memory of Grandma Bullard. Oh! How she did make me suffer!!
A longing deep and painful burned,The aching was intense!
And each week found this child around
 Squirming with suspense!

“She’ll be real tired,” she’d tell herself.“Today will be the time,
When I can break that stubborn streak,
And, Oh boy! Won’t I shine.”

But, pleading tones or screams of rageNe’er brought a ray of hope.
Grandma had doubt--I could cut out
A boiler full of fresh soap!
