What are the consequences
Of living in old houses?
Houses that have histories of their own,
Houses where other folk have dwelled,
Houses with marks on floors and walls
You cannot quite erase
And memories in the empty halls?
What are the effects they place
Upon your body and your mind?
New houses you can hope to mold
To fit yourself at every point.
But old houses . . . no.
And after they have held you long enough,
The people who have tarried there before
May live again in you in some small way
You would not wish to find.
